YEAR 5

Welcome back to all of the families for another busy year. I am extremely happy to be teaching this lovely class again this year, I look forward to seeing their continued progress.

The Year 5’s have begun their homework for the year, just a reminder that it is handed out to the students Mondays and is due every Friday, as well as their Spelling Tests on Fridays. Online homework (Mathletics and Reading Eggs) is assigned on Mondays and due the following Monday. A reminder that online homework is also recorded on SEQTA and data is used for reports. It is important that students are completing their online homework, as well as their booklets.

We continue to have fruit time at 10.00am every day, so please make sure your child has a fruit/vegetable to eat at this time. Lunchboxes need to have fruit, snack and lunch- as well as a water bottle every day. Remember, no chips, chocolate or lollies.

This term, the Year 5’s have a project for Integrated Studies (History), which is being handed out Week 4, it will be due in Week 7. The students have the information for this project, please support them in working on this at home.

This project will involve researching and presenting information about an important time in Colonial Australia in the 1800’s. Make sure to answer the questions below:

  1. What event took place?
  2. When did it occur? (the exact date)
  3. Where did it happen?
  4. Who was involved?
  5. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this event?
  6. How did it have an impact on Australia and its development?
  7. Pictures, maps and diagrams must be included
  8. References must be shown Your project MUST be presented on a poster, PowerPoint

We’ve been really lucky to welcome 3 new students to our class: Batul, Noor and Aiza. We have also welcomed back returned students Hussain and Mostafa. All five students have settled in quickly to the class routine and made good friends.
